A shooting in the early morning hours of August 9 left a woman dead and a man in jail for murder, according to Edna Police Chief Rick Boone.

Boone said that a 911 call came in just before 2 a.m., after a third party heard what they believed to be gunshots in the area of Kleas and Buffalo streets in Edna.

When first responders arrived, they found Ramon Palacios, 36, of Edna, at the scene. Palacios admitted to shooting his girlfriend, Roseann Martinez.

Palacios has been booked into the Jackson County Jail for murder.
