“There’s work to be done and a war to be won…now!” could be seen on posters from the United States Employment Services in the early 1940’s. Women soon emerged as a “fighting” force during WWII with millions contributing in a multitude of roles with significant results!
Speaker and historian Reba Roberson will share her extensive research on the “Women of WWII” with the Jackson County Retired School Personnel on January 20, 2025. Ganado’s St. James Lutheran Church’s Fellowship Hall, located at 900 West 3rd Street, will host the first meeting of the new year, where all retired “recruits” are urged to come hear a wealth of intriguing information.
As news of the WEP and GPO repeal was revealed, only awaiting official signing, likely there will be an “end of the war” atmosphere at this 11: 45 a.m. gathering. Join your fellow education “soldiers” who have urged for this promotion of retiring school personnel’s rights for multiple years. A celebratory “hoo-ray” can be heard from all those current retirees and from those yet to come!
The luncheon, catered by Ganado JCRSP members, should be RSVP’d to Kathy Johnson at 361-781-4004 by January 16, 2025. Those shouldering other responsibilities are Cindy Janica, invocation, Donnie Tegeler, pledges, and the following hostesses: Chairs Salley & Fred Reckaway, Keith Bridges, Diane Bubela, Sharon Foltyn, David Grewe, Susie Pape, Shirley Schmitt, Frances Toman, Marie Schomburg, Mary Spacek, Donnie Tegeler, Jonel Knuppel, Rhonda Garner, and Aileen Koudleka.
A new year always offers hope. Oprah Winfrey opined, “Tomorrow is the first blank page of a 365-page book….” JCRSP will always be devoted to learning more to do more to aid in the education of others. Join in the campaign.
