Court approves 10 year contract

Jackson County Commissioners approved a 10-year contract with the Jackson County County- Wide Drainage District during Tuesday’s Commissioners Court meeting.

The county already has had a 10-year contract with the drainage district, County Judge Jill Sklar said.

“We have to do that because they don’t have the authority to actually levy the tax,” Sklar said, noting that a ballot measure to give the drainage district the ability to levy its own taxes failed the last time it was brought before the voters.

Also, commissioners rejected both bids the county received for the remodeling project at the Jackson County Service Building, Sklar said, which will lead to rebidding the project a little differently.

In addition, commissioners appointed Tony Doyle as a representative to the Jackson County Appraisal District’s Board of Directors.
