Jose Miguel “Mike” Salazar of Edna has been indicted for Murder and Aggravated Assault with Serious Bodily Injury with a Deadly Weapon, Family Violence.
The indictment alleges that on October 16, Salazar caused the death of Jasmine Ramirez, with whom he had a familial relationship as defined by Texas law, by beating her with his hands and feet, and running her over with a motor vehicle. It also accuses Salazar of doing so while committing the offense of Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger, and states that two people under the age of 15 were present.
Salazar was arrested on Oct 17 following the incident on the Highway 59 Southbound feeder road near County Road 300, just south of Edna. Investigators were on scene most of the day on October 17.
Both counts are first degree felonies, and Salazar could face up to 99 years in prison if found guilty.
