Jackson County was well represented in the UIL Spirit State Championship held Jan. 16 in Fort Worth, with two schools reaching the finals and another in the qualifying round.
In Class 3A Division II, the Industrial Cobras finished fourth overall with 87.83 points, trailing Scurry-Rosser, Woodville, and Jacksboro.
In the qualifying round, Industrial placed second in the Band Chant category with 45.650 points, third in Crowd Leading with 82.750 points, and twelfth in Fight Song with 56.200 points.
Competing in Class 3A, Div. I, the Edna High School cheerleaders placed 15th overall with 73.17 points. Shallowater won the championship, followed by Kirbyville and Corpus Christi London.
In the qualifying round, the Cowgirls placed second in Fight Song with 62.700 points, 13th in Band Chant with 45.100 points, and 23rd in Crowd Leading with 67.550 points.
In Class 2A, the Ganado High School cheer team competed in the state qualifying rounds, but did not advance to the finals.
The Indians placed 41st in Band Chant with 47.050 points, 42nd in Fight Song with 52.800 points, and 48th in Crowd Leading with 73.600 points, for a total of 173.450 points.
