Cowboys trounce Tidehaven, Cobras beat Palacios in 25-3A play

Senior Braylen Harris posted a double-double and junior Kalub Caesar poured in 21 points as the Edna Cowboys rolled by Tidehaven, 75-47, Friday night in District 25-3A boys action.

Harris scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Caesar scored 21 points with five rebounds. Freshman point guard Jayfus Smith added 10 points with five assists for the Cowboys as all but one player scored.

Edna used the win over the Tigers to bounce back from a 68-53 loss to Columbus on Tuesday. The Cowboys had trailed by 11 at halftime of that game before roaring back to within a point, but the Cardinals put together an 18-2 run to close out the win.

“Offensively, we did a bunch of really good things,” Coach Sheldon Moor said. “We just couldn’t finish.”

The Cowboys played at Hallettsville on Monday. They return to action Friday by hosting Palacios at 7:30 p.m.

Industrial Cobras

Industrial split games last week, defeating Palacios, 45-41, but losing to Columbus, 57-47.

Senior Jake Alexander scored 15 points, Gi’Ziah Lopez scored 13, and Brady Koop added 10 as the Cobras pulled away from the Sharks in the fourth quarter to post the four-point district win.

Against the Cardinals, Industrial’s defense shined for most of the game, including the second quarter when the Cobras held Columbus to four points. But the Cardinals blew the game open by outscoring Industrial 25-13 in the fourth quarter for the come-from-behind win.

Alexander had 23 points and Lopez had 13 in the loss.

Industrial traveled to district leader Rice Consolidated Monday afternoon. They host Tidehaven at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Ganado Maidens

Senior Zoey Ybarra scored 12 points and Michaela Estrada added 10 as the Ganado Maidens defeated Louise, 48-24, Tuesday night in District 28-2A play.

The Maidens’ defense kept Louise to single-digit scoring each of the first three quarters to put the game out of reach.

On Friday, the Maidens lost to Weimar, 48-20. Ybarra led the team with nine points, coming on three three-point baskets in the second quarter.

This week, Ganado had a bye for Tuesday. The Maidens return to action at 6:15 p.m. Friday at Schulenburg.

Edna Cowgirls

Edna dropped a pair of games last week, falling to Columbus, 51-43, and to Tidehaven, 71-66.

The Cowgirls traveled to Hallettsville Monday. They host Palacios at 6:15 p.m. on Friday.

Industrial Cobras

The Industrial Cobras lost a pair of District 25-3A games last week, dropping a heartbreaker to Palacios, 41-40, and losing to Columbus, 43-33.

The Cobras played at Rice Consolidated on Monday. They host district leader Tidehaven at 6:15 p.m. Friday.

Girls District Standings

Tidehaven (28-1) continues to lead the District 25-3A girls standings at 8-1, followed by Columbus (17-6) at 6-2, Hallettsville (10-14) at 6-3, Edna (20-9) and Palacios (15-12) tied at 5-4, Industrial (18-13) at 4-5, Yoakum (8-17) at 1-8, and Rice Consolidated (1-22) at 0-8.

On Jan. 14, Columbus beat Edna, 51-43; Palacios beat Industrial, 41-40; Hallettsville beat Rice Consolidated, 56-18; and Tidehaven beat Yoakum, 63-30. On Friday, Columbus beat Industrial, 43-33; Tidehaven beat Edna, 71-66; Hallettsville beat Yoakum, 52-38; and Palacios beat Rice Consolidated, 45-23.

This week, Industrial traveled to Rice Consolidated and Edna traveled to Hallettsville on Monday, while Columbus played at Tidehaven and Yoakum played at Palacios on Tuesday. Friday’s games include Tidehaven at Industrial, Yoakum at Rice Consolidated, Hallettsville at Columbus, and Palacios at Edna.

In District 28-2A, Flatonia (21-4) remains atop the standings at 8-0, followed by Shiner (16-8) at 6-1, Weimar (16-10) at 5-2, Schulenburg (15-10) at 4-4, Ganado (7-18) at 3-5, Bloomington (3-22) at 1-7, and Louise (4-19) at 0-8.

On Jan. 14, Flatonia beat Schulenburg 79-20; Shiner beat Bloomington, 75-11; and Ganado beat Louise, 48-24. On Friday, Weimar beat Ganado, 4820; Schulenburg beat Louise, 37-17; and Flatonia beat Bloomington, 73-7.

This week, Tuesday’s games included Bloomington at Louise; Shiner at Flatonia; and Schulenburg at Weimar; with Ganado drawing a bye. On Friday, Weimar travels to Bloomington; Ganado is at Schulenburg; and Louise is at Shiner.

Boys District Standings

With the first round of games in the books, Rice Consolidated (16-6) and Yoakum (12-6) lead the District 25-3A standings at 6-1, followed by Columbus (5-2) at 5-2, Edna (7-4) at 5-2, Industrial (17-11) at 3-4, Hallettsville (7-17) at 2-5, Palacios (11-17) at 1-6, and Tidehaven (0-6) at 0-7.

On Jan. 14, Industrial beat Palacios, 45-41; Columbus beat Edna, 68-53; Rice Consolidated beat Hallettsville, 52-48; and Yoakum beat Tidehaven, 47-28. On Friday, Columbus beat Industrial, 57-47; Rice Consolidated beat Palacios, 46-30; and Edna beat Tidehaven, 75-47. No score from the Yoakum- Hallettsville game was reported to MaxPreps.

In District 28-2A, according to MaxPreps, Shiner (6-3) leads the district at 5-1, followed by Schulenburg (8-8) at 3-1, Flatonia (12-12) at 4-2, Weimar (11-8) at 3-2, Ganado (1-3) at 1-2, Bloomington (2-16) at 1-5, and Louise (0-16) at 0-4.

On Jan. 14, Shiner beat Bloomington, 76-44 and Schulenburg beat Flatonia, 52-40. No score was reported for the Weimar- Burton game or the Ganado-Louise game. On Jan. 17, the only score reported to MaxPreps was Flatonia 48, Bloomington 24. No score was reported for the Louise-Schulenburg game or the Weimar- Ganado game.

This week’s Tuesday games include Shiner at Flatonia and Schulenburg at Weimar, with Ganado drawing a bye. On Friday, Bloomington hosts Weimar; Shiner hosts Louise; Marion hosts Flatonia; and Schulenburg hosts Ganado.
