IISD receives faculty grants, donations for new scoreboard

Between grants for faculty and staff use from the Industrial Education Foundation and donations to the athletic department, Industrial ISD received over $113,000 during its January board meeting on Monday.

Industrial trustees voted to accept $54,465 in grants from the IEF to be used by faculty and staff members at the district’s campuses.

The district received $5,000 gifts to be used for a new baseball scoreboard from Vanderbilt Farmers Coop, Inc.; Port Lavaca Ford; Victoria Dodge; First State Bank – Malek; Industrial Little League; and the 2025 senior baseball parents, who donated $625 each (Kurtz, Warren, Martin, Larew, Kuchler, Brumley, Sherry Janis Photography, and 2Chainz Brush Clearing LLC).

The Industrial Athletic Booster Club donated $10,401.20, including $8,920 for boys football activity headset system and $1,481.20 for boys basketball activity supplies and performance gear. The booster club also donated $18,385.07, which included $2,710.79 for boys football activity helmets, $2,220 for girls basketball activity basketballs, $6,604.43 for volleyball activity training systems, and $6,849.85 for powerlifting activity supplies.

January is School Board Recognition Month and trustees were recognized and thanked at the beginning of the meeting for their service to the district.

The board also held a closed session to discuss Superintendent Clark Motley’s evaluation, but took no action upon returning to open session.

In other business, trustees: Approved the 20232024 annual audit presentation; Heard the Administration’s Report, which included current enrollment of 1,173 students and current amount of employees at 166.5, as well as the State Board of Education Multi-Year Plan for Instructional Material Review update from Stacey Bain, Instructional Programs Director; Approved the minutes of December 9, 2024 and January 6, 2025 board meetings; Approved the financial statement for December 2024; Accepted and approved the 2024 levy roll for Jackson County ($9,421,399.37 plus special assessment $922.14) and Victoria County ($1,848,726.38 plus special assessment of $699.39) for a total of $11,271,717.28; Approved the implementation of three new innovative courses: Kinesiology II, Practicum in Entrepreneurship, and Sports and Entertainment Marketing II; and Agreed to accept the annual Legal Services Retainer Agreement as presented by Walsh Gallegos Kyle Robinson & Roalson P.C.
