Commissioners approve two projects

Jackson County Commissioners gave the go-ahead for architectural services to a pair of projects during Tuesday’s Commissioners Court meeting.

Commissioners approved a proposal for architecture services with Planning Place Consulting for work in the auditorium of the Jackson County Service Building and later approved a contract for architectural services with Burns Architecture, LLC, for a new animal shelter.

Commissioners have discussed needed renovations to the Service Building in prior meetings. Needs throughout the building will continue to be addressed, County Judge Jill Sklar said Friday.

The new animal shelter is a joint project with the City of Edna, funded with $400,000 from Formosa. The current animal shelter is run by the city.

Also Tuesday, commissioners approved the District Judges’ order appointing Michelle Darilek as Jackson County Auditor for a two-year term ending Dec. 31, 2026.

In other business, commissioners: Approved the minutes and/or additions and corrections; Approved budget amendments, line-item transfers and revenue certifications for FY 2025 Budget; Approved the (Tier Two) White Oak Meadow Subdivision; Approved a proposed Agricultural Lease with Board of Regents of the Texas A&M University System; Approved Contingency Disaster Contracts for Storm Debris Removal with DRC Emergency Services, LLC; Approved Contingency Disaster Contracts for Storm Debris Monitoring with Tetra Tech, Inc. and TLC; Approved an application and resolution for the VA-Victims of Crime Act Formula Grant Program, including a 20 percent required match, though the Office of the Governor; Approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Houston High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HHIDTA); Approved an updated License Plate Reader (LPR) User Agreement and Memo of Understanding (MOU) Regarding TCIC Stolen License Plate and Vehicle Information with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS); Approved the disposal of county equipment; Received the unaudited financial statements as of and for the two months ending Nov. 30, 2024; Approved a quote to strip and re-wax Courthouse flooring; Approved a new proposal from Safeguard Ecology & Company, LLC for pest control for the Courthouse; Entered executive session pursuant to Texas Government Code, Title 5, Subdivision D, Section 551.072, for deliberation regarding a possible purchase of real property located in Edna, but took no action upon returning to open session; Tabled a Commercial Buyer/Tenant Representation Agreement; Approved payment of county and precinct bills and court orders; Approved payroll changes; and Received various county reports, news and information.
