Smiga seeks fourth term leading City of Edna

Edna Mayor Lance Smiga, District 1 Council Member Cippi Palacios, and District 2 Council Member Katrina Callis have filed to run for another term to serve the City of Edna.

The window to file an application to run for city office is now open. In the City of Edna, the office of mayor and District 1 and District 2 city council seats are all on the ballot. All are two-year terms.

If elected, this will be Smiga’s fourth term as Mayor after serving three years as District 4 Council Member.

Palacios is seeking his second full term after finishing a half-term.

For Callis, this would be her first full term after being appointed in November to finish her father Wayne Callis’s term after he passed away in October.

The filing period began Jan. 15 and ends on Fri., Feb. 14. Applications to file for office may be dropped off at City Hall, 126 W.

Main St., between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Applications for a place on the ballot will be available at City Hall and can be submitted to the City Secretary’s Office.

Under the Edna City Charter, the mayor and each council member shall be a qualified voter of the city, shall have resided in the city and in his or her district at least one year immediately preceding his or her election, and shall hold no other elective public office, appointive city office, nor be an employee of the city.

Any person having these qualifications and who is not indebted to the city, shall have the right to file an application in writing.
