Larew signs with UHV

For Industrial Cobra Major Larew, playing baseball at the next level has always been the goal, and on Wednesday, Feb. 5, he signed his letter of intent to play college baseball at the University of Houston-Victoria.

“I’ve always dreamed of playing college ball,” Larew explained. “This is all I’ve ever wanted. It’s the best feeling in the world. To continue to play the game I love, not many people can do that and I am fortunate enough to have gotten the opportunity to do so.”

UHV offered what Larew wanted.

“I was just looking for the best possible fit for me,” he said. “UHV had been at the top of my list, with it being close to home and because of the great program Coach Stavinoha and Coach Heinold have built here. I just wanted to be a part of it.”

Larew had a chance to talk with the UHV coaches, and he is ready to help the team win.

“My role will be whatever the team needs it to be because at the end of the day, it’s all about winning,” Larew explained about what position he was hoping to play. “I want to contribute in any possible way to achieve the goal.”

Before college though, Larew is just beginning his senior baseball season. Last season, the Cobras advanced to the fourth round of the playoffs and the team has a a lot of talent returning.

“(To succeed this season) we just need to stay consistent at what we’re good at,” Larew explained. ”We’re led by a big senior class and a couple sophomores. We’ve all been playing together for over 10 years now and winning state would be the cherry on top for us. It’s our last ride and we don’t want to waste it.”

The Cobras are scrimmaging now and will play their first games on Feb 20, at the Schulenburg tournament.

Larew plans to study kinesiology and to become a coach in the future.
