Build Trust with Loyal Love
The wise man said, “What is desirable in a person is loyalty, and it is better to be poor than a liar” (Proverbs 19:22, NRSV). We have been thinking together about love and loyalty from the Scriptures. It is how God acts toward us and according to God’s word, it is how we should act towards our fellowman. What can you do to build and maintain trust by showing loyalty and love to others?
You can be intentional in seeing and acknowledging the value each person has before God. All human beings are made in the image of God and are worthy of respect and courtesy (Gen. 1:26-27). Jesus gave His life that all people might be saved (1 Tim. 2:4; John 3:16). Today we need more people to recognize this. It will change the way we speak to others, even if we disagree with them (Eph. 4:29-32). It will change the way we treat others, too (Matt. 7:12). This is one of the benefits of being a part of the Lord’s church. God teaches and commands Christians to love and value each other and their contribution to the church (1 Cor. 12:12-27; Eph. 4:11-16).
You can be intentional about being present and helpful when there are times of adversity and trial (Prov. 18:24; 27:10; Job 6:14). That is what Ruth did for Naomi (Ruth 1:16). That is what Jesus did for us in our sins (Rom. 5:6-8). This is what God promises to those who walk in His ways (Matt. 1:23; 28:20). It is true that “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity” (Proverbs 17:17, ESV).
Faithfulness, loyalty, and love are hard to find in this world (Prov. 20:6). Thankfully God has been and will always be faithful, loyal, and loving (2 Tim. 2:11-13; 2 Cor. 1:18-19; 1 John 4:8). As one made in the image of God, you have an obligation to show loyalty and love to God and to others. What would be the result if you started being loyal to God and to others?
