Elizabeth Guerrero and her father Asuncion moved to Texas from New York because they’d always loved the state. They have family here, and they have visited annually for many years.
However, city living wasn’t compatible with Asuncion’s desire to raise livestock animals, so they landed in Ganado.
The family already had a history of working in the food service industry, even running a family-owned restaurant in New York.
When they began to settle in Ganado, they found limited dining options and also noticed what used to be the Ganado Café was for sale.
“I said ‘daddy, that’s for sale, do you want to try?’” said Elizabeth.
The result is now called Gurerrero’s Café, and Elizabeth said they serve a variety of foods from all different backgrounds “to give everyone a taste of every culture.”
Guerrero’s Café is a family- owned restaurant if there ever was one. Elizabeth, her husband, sister, cousin, and parents all work together every day to make sure they can serve Jackson County, and so far, Jackson County has been welcoming.
“They have been so supportive,” she said. “We are very grateful. We never expected to have this much support from everybody. It’s something you don’t have in New York. We’re like little kids right now. We’re so joyful, and so excited.”
Guerrero’s Café is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday 8 a.m. They’re located at 118 S. Third Street in Ganado.
