Edna senior Shanti Guerra earned Offensive Player of the Year on the 25-3A All-District girls basketball teams released recently.
Guerra averaged 18.7 points, 3.0 assists and 7.8 rebounds, including 3.5 offensive boards, per game.
Guerra was one of seven Cowgirls and six Industrial Cobras honored for their hoops skills.
Industrial Coach Kathy Anderson said she was “super proud” to see so many of her players recognized by the rest of the district.
“It’s a testament to how hard they worked this year,” Anderson said. “It’s also an honor to have the other district coaches recognize them, too. I am particularly proud of our Academic All-District honors, and every varsity player is on that list.”
Edna Coach Dustin Durham said he, too, was very proud of his players who were honored.
“In an amazing district like this, it is an outstanding accomplishment to be awarded with All-District honors,” Durham said.
Making 25-3A First Team for Edna were senior Bella Plotini (13 pts., 5 ast., 5 reb.) and junior Keira Santellana (13.5 pts., 7.5 reb., 5.6 steals, 4.7 deflections).
Making 25-3A First Team for Industrial were senior Deziree Evans (18 pts., 7 reb., 4 blk/defl., 51 percent FG shooting) and Karli Stanush (9 pts., 3 ast., 7 reb., 4 blk/defl.)
Edna’s Skye Delgado made Second Team, along with Industrial’s Cecilia Jalufka (7 pts., 2 stl., 6 reb., 65 percent FT) and Kimber Linke (4 stl, 3 reb., 75 percent FT).
Honorable Mentions included Cowgirls Te’Arin Turner, Kelis Turner, and Emmalee Garcia, and Cobras Lyla Kallus and Kyler Caskey.
Academic All-District from Edna were Guerra, Azariah Medrano, Blaykeslee Pieprzyca, Plotini, Santellana, Kelis Turner, Te’Arin Turner, Bri Hoskins, Julie Koch, and Emma Shoemate; and from Industrial, Kylie Benavides, Caskey, Evans, Jalufka, Kallus, Linke, Sayler Lane, Stanush, and Bella Vargas.
