Industrial trustees honor IJH for national award

Industrial Junior High was recognized for excellence in education during Monday’s school board meeting.

State Board of Education District 2 representative L.J. Francis attended the meeting as the junior high campus was officially recognized by the school district for being designated as a National Blue Ribbon School for the 2024-2025 school year.

The junior high campus joins Industrial Elementary East, which received the same designation for the 2023-2024 school year. Industrial Junior High is one of 31 school campuses in Texas which received the designation.

Also during the school board meeting, teachers Shelley Marek and Jeana Yendrey were chosen to receive the Texas Teacher License Plate award.

The Texas Teacher License Plate was approved in 2023 to honor the time, effort, and dedication shown by classroom teachers to educate children. The license plate design features an apple decorated with the state flag and encircled by the words “Learn, Teach, Inspire,” with “Texas Teacher” under the plate numbers. The specialty plates are available for teachers with 15 or more years of service, or for retired teachers with 20 or more years of service.

The school board also accepted the following donations: $319.95 from the Inez Parent Club to Industrial Elementary West for the gifted and talented field trip; $1,500 ($500 per grade), from the Industrial Junior High PTC to the junior high for field trips for grades six through eight; and $500 from Capital Farm Credit to the district FFA program.

The district trustees also canceled the May 3 election and declared unopposed candidates Denise Chaney and B.J. Ellison to be elected to the board of trustees. Both are incumbent candidates.

In addition, trustees also approved the renewal of contracts as presented and also approved the hiring of Kathryn Luna and Jessica Woodring under probationary contract for the 20252026 school year.
