At the corner of Putnam Avenue in Ganado, is Fayeberries, a spot owned by Faye Warren. Snuggled between Guerrero’s Cafe and Haven Salon & Boutique, the owner has some big ideas she’d like to implement over time.
Fayeberries is a store offering all kinds of goodies: gifts for others and for oneself. Warren owns an X-tool machine, one which can ingrain on 100 different materials. She also has an embroidery machine.
“It has an inkjet and crinkle cut, so I can print on wood, as long as the material is porous. I can even make puzzles with it,” Warren said. “I make jewelry as well, and can take orders.”
Everything in the store is for sale, including all types of vanity mirrors, furniture and vintage desks. Warren is proud to say she even knows how to work with wood fibers so she can recreate edgings on one’s favorite drawer set or chest.
The name Fayeberries has a sweet background, Warren’s granddaughter and great nieces love fairies so she invented a name out of it. Another reason for the name: Warren has a green thumb.
“Eventually I want to have on our 13 acres a you-pick farm, and a big garden house,” she said. “I’m going to have orchard trees as well, and in a couple of years there’ll be a small market for berries.”
Warren’s husband, Daryl Bolend, lived in Ganado when he was in junior high, but has always had family there.
“The land has been in the family for 50 years, so everyone always comes back to the land,” Warren said. “I know how small Ganado is, and people might see us as out-oftowners, but we’re grandparents, so we know what it’s like.”
On a first pass-through, Fayeberries contains handmade soaps, salts and scrubs by Warren, with a hope of beginning a ‘candy soap shop’ displayed like a bakery, where one can create their own scents. She uses real cocoa rose petals, and mango, just to name a few.
There’s also lots of items for children, including toys and baby blankets. Due to her green thumb, one will see pots, and she also does flower arrangements. She can personalize gift bags, bubblers for weddings, Bible tassels, potpourri and more.
One more bit that must be mentioned: she has lots of dog items, due to her two dogs, an exotic bulldog named Vegas and a Frenchie named Diamond.
“That’s why you’ll see a little bit of everything because I’m trying to test and see what will sell. And Fayeberries is not just for women, she has items for men as well.
“When everything is put together, it’s going to be great,” Warren said. “I have a library of books that keeps me excited… but it’s going through the stuff, that’s the problem, but it’s going to look wonderful. Come by and see me!”
