EBLC “Springs” into activities

Spring is a good time for a road trip, and the Eleanor Brackenridge Literary Club members who were able to squeeze in a jaunt through the Museum of the Coastal Bend, located in Victoria, Texas, found a place of solitude, history and discovery. Claudia Moseley, Education Coordinator, welcomed us warmly and invited us to explore.

Exhibits presented ranged from the first inhabitants of the region through the French, Spanish and Mexican colonization efforts and are demonstrated throughout the main building. LaSalle’s cannons are prominent to the eye upon entry, and the two individuals discovered with the ship are prominent and always of interest. We also received a taste of the upcoming Ranching exhibit and visited with the museum’s newly hired curator.

After the tour, the group enjoyed a meal together at China B restaurant. Discussion around the table included thoughts on the success of Trivia Night as seen in a prepared photo album. The winning teams of the Trivia contest included: 1st place Texana Fellowship, 2nd place First United Methodist Church, 3rd place Darling Divas with the Best Table Decorations going to Texana Fellowship and Best Participation to the Groovy Vibe Tribe. The boost to the club’s budget, as seen in the treasurer’s report, will mean a multitude of scholarships to be awarded.

Additionally, the Card Raffle winners, including Summer Green, Paulette McElveen, Allen Schultz, Maggie Hernandez, Alice Johnson, Fred Westhoff, Laurie Stables, Bill Reaves, Dana Dworaczyk and Ceeann Webb took home a total of 15 treasures. Numerous Silent Auction bidders found many items of interest to purchase, and a variety of Jackson County businesses were prominently advertised throughout the facility.

The next Eleanor Brackenridge Literary Club project, BINGO, will be held on June 12, 2025, in the Jackson County Services Building. Promotional flyers and tickets will soon be available for purchase from any EBLC member for $25. All are welcome to participate and enjoy.
