R-Transit to close

R-Transit, which helped Jackson County residents without transportation get to things like doctor’s appointments, ceased its non-medical transportation on March 31, and will shut down completely on Friday, April 11.

According to a press release from Friends of Elder Citizens, state budget cuts are responsible for the closure, “despite our best efforts.”

“We want to extend our deepest appreciation to everyone who has ridden with R-Transit throughout the years,” said the press release, signed by Lillian Solis-Smith, President of Friends of Elder Citizens.

“It has been a pleasure to serve each and every one of our clients.”

The release stated that the primary focus now is to ensure a smooth transition for clients.

The transit system is managed by the Golden Crescent Region Planning Commission, and Jackson County is not the only county affected.
