The Jackson County A&M Club will hold its annual Aggie Muster and fellowship beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 21, in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church of Edna.
This year’s Muster is dedicated to the memory of the following Jackson County residents: Renee’ Brisbois Bures ’84, Lester Cranek Jr. ’69, William Robert “Billy Bob” Hale ’52, Dietrich “Dickie” William Koop ’57, Leander G. “Garrett” Menefee ’44, Lucky Frances Wells II ’75, and Hans Ross Wittenburg ’50.
Former, current and future students and all friends of A&M are welcome to attend Muster. Children are welcome.
Dress is casual. Bring a favorite dish or dessert to share if you are able.
“Over the years, Aggie Muster has grown to be one of Texas A&M’s greatest traditions,” said Pat Shoemate ’77 of Edna, Muster chairman. “The Muster program honors the memory of A&M men and women whose death prevents them from answering Roll Call at this year’s Muster. The Roll Call is a roster compiled of all former and current students who have died over the past year or have just been added to the list.
As each name is called, a friend or family member will answer “Here!” symbolizing that their memory lives on in the hearts of Aggies everywhere.”
“Muster is more than just a ceremony. It is also a way for Aggies to renew, each year, the loyalty and unity which constitute the foundation of their friendship for each other and love and devotion for their school,” she said. “It is a tradition that holds a special place in the hearts of Aggies.”
“The Texas Aggie Muster tradition spans over a century and will be observed around the world,” Shoemate explained.
“The Muster gatherings have been held in many unique places, including battleships and foxholes during World War II. It is without a doubt we can say that Aggie servicemen will be holding Muster ceremonies wherever they are stationed in current service.”
The Jackson County A&M Club’s sole purpose at this time is to host the annual Aggie Muster and to provide at least one scholarship to each of the county’s three high schools.
