Fire Destroys Building in Ganado
An early morning fire destroyed the old bank building that is located between the Brookshire Brother and Budget Inn on Business 59 in Ganado.
"The motion detector alarm went off and the call went out to Ganado PD," EMS #3 Fire Chief Kurt Janica said. "They thought maybe it was a break-in, but it ended up, the building was already fully involved when we got there. Two engines from Ganado responded, one engine from Edna along with the crew truck. Upon arrival at the scene, the building was already fully involved. The fire had already burned through the roof, so it became more of a defensive fight. We had to keep the fire from spreading to the motel and other areas. The building was a total loss. It was the old bank building that has been converted into a gun store. We did end up calling Louise for mutual aid. We ended up having about 20 fire fighters on scene, fighting the fire. There were no injuries. No casulaties or fire fighter injuries occured.
"At this time the fire is under investigation," Janica concluded. "The State Fire Marshall is coming to help investigate, since the fire occured at a business."
Janica said the fire started around 3:30 in the morning and the fire fighters fought it until around 8 a.m.
