Gov. Abbott orders schools to remain closed, extends executive order
Texas Governor Greg Abbott made an announcement that will keep Texas schools closed until at least May 4.
Abbott extended his executive order to keep bars closed and restaurants drive-thru or take out only saying the system in place seems to be working.
“I am extending the deadline of the executive order, hoping to further reduce the spread of Covid 19 and to maximize the number of lives that can be saved,” Gov. Abbott said.
Abbott said right now, 41 Texans have died from Covid 19. He added just over 11 percent of people who contract the virus need to go to the hospital.
“Your local jurisdiction still has the authority (to order a lock down),” Gov. Abbott added.
While answering questions after the statement, he said they are “adding people by the hundreds to help with people who are filing unemployment claims. We are hoping the added people will accelerate the time it will take for you to get your claim.”
If Covid 19 keeps spreading, Gov. Abbott has the authority to extend his order.
