Houston man dies in early morning wreck near El Toro
A Houston man died in a one vehicle accident on Southbound 59 near El Toro around 1:30 Thursday morning. The man, identified as Winston Kareem Burby, 30, of Houston, was driving a 2006 International Truck Tractor.
“The crash happened about 6.9 miles from Edna,” DPS Sgt. Ruben San Miguel said. “It was a one vehicle accident. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by JOP Cyndi Poulton at 2:15 a.m.
“The driver was driving South in the outside lane, near mile marker 616 at El Toro,” Miguel continued. “For some reason, he drove off the right side of the roadway, and then overcorrected left, and then overcorrected right. At that point, he was unable to maintain control of the vehicle and it rolled over on its side and went into a skid. The vehicle came to rest against a guardrail on the West side of 59. The driver succumbed to the impact of the crash. The reason for him driving off the road is still under investigation.
“The accident closed Southbound 59 for nearly seven hours. The road finally opened back up just after 8 a.m.”
