Local primary election results
There were three contested county races in the Jackson County Republican Primary, with incumbent Pct. 1 Commissioner Wayne Hunt securing another term. Hunt received 312 votes to local farmer and challenger Clinton Shefcik’s 233. The Pct. 1 Constable race was also decided with Jackson County Deputy Joel Price taking the win with 940 votes to Edna Police Chief Clinton Wooldridge’s 622.
The Pct. 3 Commissioner race will be settled in a runoff election to be held on Tuesday, May 26. Incumbent Johnny Belicek and challenger Glenn Martin, a Pct. 1 employee, will face off to see who will get the most votes and secure the position. There were three candidates on the ballot for the Pct. 3 commissioner position, Belicek, Martin, and local plumber Rodney Fowler. A candidate had to receive at least 51 percent of the vote to be declared a winner.
In the primary election, Belicek received 318 votes, Martin 434, and Fowler 273.
There were no Democratic candidates for any of these local positions, so unless there are any write-in candidates, the winners will be unchallenged in the general election in November.
