Pickup rolls, all escape without major injuries, two arrested
A one vehicle rollover accident on Thursday at 6:15 p.m. on Hwy. 59S, at the FM 234 overpass just past El Toro, sent two people to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
“Derrick Dewayn Allen, 42 of El Campo, was driving a 2015 GMC pickup when he veered across onto the shoulder and then overcorrected into the median,” DPS spokesman Sgt. Ruben San Miguel said. “The vehicle was traveling north when it went into the median. It overturned several times and ended up facing south.”
The truck came to rest in the grass right beside the southbound shoulder of the road. A passenger, Tomeika Smith, was thrown from the vehicle.
“Smith was ejected from the vehicle during the crash,” San Miguel said. “She was transported to Citizens Medical Center with non-incapacitating injuries. Allen was also transported to Citizens where he was medically cleared and then arrested and transported to Victoria County jail on the authority of an outstanding warrant out of Wharton County.”
San Miguel said a second passenger, Joel Everon Brown, 40 of El Campo, was not injured. He was medically cleared at the scene and then arrested by the Jackson County Sheriffs Office on the authority of a warrant out of Wharton County.
San Miguel said he was unsure of what the warrants were issued for. He also said the cause of the crash is still being investigated.
