Edna Police are seeking information regarding a subject they have called a “person of interest” in their investigation of Lizbeth Medina’s murder.
Photographs accompanying a Facebook post by Edna Police Chief Rick Boone show a man in jeans and a black “Volcom” hooded sweatshirt. He is shown with dark hair and a beard, and police say he possibly has a tattoo behind his right ear. The subject may be driving a silver Ford Taurus with a year model from between 2010 and 2018.
“We understand the photographs are not the best quality and are working to obtain any additional information to identify the person of interest,” the post read.
16-year-old Lizbeth Medina was found unresponsive by her mother on the evening of Tuesday, December 5 in her home at Cottonwood Apartments. Police have released little information since, to preserve the integrity of the investigation.
The crime is being investigated as a Capital Murder, which carries a punishment of life in prison without the possibility of parole, or death. According to Texas Penal Code, a Capital Murder charge can be brought in a few circumstances but is often applied when “the person intentionally commits the murder in the course of committing or attempting to commit kidnapping, burglary, robbery, aggravated sexual assault, arson, obstruction or retaliation, or terroristic threat.”
Anyone with information that could help with the investigation of this crime is urged to call the Edna Police Department at 361-782-6522 or Crime Stoppers at 361-552-CASH (2274) if they would like to be anonymous. Those providing information leading to an arrest may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $5,000.
