Rollover accident sends Palacios woman to the hospital
On Monday, June 13, a one-vehicle rollover accident sent a Palacios woman to the hospital.
“The crash happened on State Highway 35 at 7:58 a.m. on Monday, June 13,” DPS Spokesman Sgt. Ruben San Miguel said. “The vehicle, a 2018 Nissan Maxima was driven by Vanessa Ruiz 27, of Palacios.
San Miguel explained Ruiz was travelling west on 35, driving behind a truck tractor.
“The truck tractor began to slow down to make a left turn,” San Miguel continued. “Ruiz drove on the shoulder in an attempt to pass on the right. The vehicle ahead moved to the right side of the west bound lane and Ruiz drove off the right side of the road, and into a ditch where she struck a culvert which caused the vehicle to overturn. The vehicle ended up on its roof, facing west.”
Ruiz was taken to Memorial Medical Center in Port Lavaca where she was listed in stable condition.
“She was wearing her seatbelt, so that is why she is alive,” San Miguel added.
The investigation is still ongoing.
