Sorensen sentenced to 25 years
The jury handed down a 25 year sentence for Amber Sorensen on Thursday morning.
The jury deliberated for 30 minutes on Wednesday evening and then about an hour on Thursday before deciding on the verdict. The verdict was 25 years confinement at a Texas Department of Criminal Justice facility.
Sorensen shot and killed Jarrett Parker in February of 2017 and was convicted on Tuesday of Enhanced Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon of A Person in a Dating Relationship or Family/Household Member, which is a first degree felony.
Annette Parker, Jarrett's step-mother, Don Parker, Jarrett's father, and Debra Taylor, Jarrett's mother, delivered Victim Impact Statements after the sentence was read.
Sorensen was remanded into the custody of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office just after the sentence was delivered.
