Threat in Ganado causes lockdown

    At approximately 8:45 a.m. on Thursday August 11, Jackson County dispatch received a call from the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Ganado. The caller relayed to dispatch that a man called in, saying he was outside the church with a gun.

    Law enforcement from every branch responded rapidly as the location of the church is two blocks from the Ganado Secondary School. To add even more concern, the Maidens volleyball team is hosting a tournament that began this morning.

    The Ganado schools were put on lockdown while deputies, state trooper, police officers, and constables searched and secured the schools and other officers handled the situation at the church.

    Although there was no threat in Edna, as an extra precaution, the Edna Police Department sent extra officers to the Edna schools.

    At approximately 9:40 the lockdown at the school was lifted in Ganado, however, several officers remained to ensure safety at the schools.

    No suspect has been detained at this time. Officers are currently still searching the area.

     Update from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office- "The Ganado Police Department is still investigating the incident from this morning. Within minutes of the incident, District Attorney's Office quickly issued a subpoena for information. A special thank you to the local telephone company, YK Communications, and their General Manager, Bill Rakowitz, for quickly working to track the call. Ganado Police Department in working with AT&T has traced the call to a device registered out of Garland, Texas. Additional Law Enforcement will remain within Ganado, Texas as a precaution around the Catholic Church and the schools at Ganado ISD. A special thank you to all Law Enforcement Agencies for their quick response. A special thank you also to Victoria County Sheriff, Justin Marr, for organizing a team and preparing them in case of the need for deployment. Law Enforcement is continuing their investigation.
