Sparkman Designated for Assignment
Glenn Sparkman made his major league debut on Friday, giving up a hit and issuing a walk, but he allowed no runs, got two outs, and escaped the inning.
On Sunday, Sparkman pitched again, and had disastrous results. He allowed 7 earned runs on 8 hits, and recorded only one out.
On Monday, the Toronto Blue Jays designated Sparkman for assignment, back to the minor leagues. As a Rule 5 Draft Pick, he must first clear waivers, and then be offered back to the Kansas City Royals. If no team selects him off waivers, the Royals have the option to put him back in their organization for half of the price that the Blue Jays paid for him in the Rule 5 draft.
If no team takes him off waivers, and the Royals pass on him, he will return to the Blue Jays AAA team, the Buffalo Bisons.
