Rachel Viola Kanak

Rachel Viola Kanak, of Edna, Texas, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2017, at the age of 92. She was born in Kinder, La. on Nov. 10, 1924, to the late Fred West Hassett and Caroline Bell Hassett.     Viola was a loving sister, aunt and dear friend who will be truly missed.     Viola is survived by her sister, Beulah Hassett Wiener; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents, Viola is preceded in death by her husband, Felix Kanak; daughter, Linda Joyce Kanak; sister, Lena Mae Morton; brother, Harless Fred Hassett.     Visitation was held on Tuesday, July 11, from 1 to 2 p.m., with a funeral service to begin at 2 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial to follow in the Gardens of Memories Cemetery in El Campo. Rev. Mr. Bybee will be officiating.     Pallbearers were Kelvin Morton, Shelton Morton, Charlie Morton, Warren Morton, Wesley Morton, Keith Peoples, Russell Swanson, and Joe Vitera.     Honorary pallbearers were Benjamin Johnston, Shannon Hassett, and Harvin Suggs.     Arrangements are under the direction of Oaklawn Funeral Home in Edna. 361-782-2221. www.oaklawnfhednatx.com.
