Charles "Charlie" H. Sample, Jr.
Charles “Charlie” H. Sample, Jr. of Edna, Texas passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at the age of 82. Charlie was born on March 25, 1935, in Houston, Texas to the late Charles Hurst Sample, Sr. and Francis Laura Billups Sample.
Charlie graduated from Lamar High School in Houston, Texas, where he was a football and track star and would share many stories about this period of time in his life. He attended Texas Tech University. During his lifetime, he worked in law enforcement, owned a tire shop, was a rancher, and worked in the oilfield. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and barbecuing for his family. He enjoyed hunting with his grandkids and taking all of us skeet shooting or just shooting cans at the camp house. He had a unique sense of humor and loved joking around with everyone. We will cherish all our memories we had from all the weekends at camp house and time we spent with him. Charlie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and dear friend who will be missed dearly.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Becky Retkofsky Sample; his children, Chuck Sample, Mandy Sample, Steve, Terri, and Jennifer; his grandchildren, Cody Sklar and Jeremy Sample; brother, John Sample; numerous nieces and nephews.
