George Whitworth

George Rhea Whitworth, 100, of Vanderbilt, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2017. He was born on Dec. 23, 1916 in Humble, Texas to William Shaw Whitworth and Ora Rhea Whitworth. He grew up in Luling, Texas. He served with honor in the United States Army – Air Corp during World War II. He worked as a lease operator for Mobil Oil for forty years. He was a member of Church of Christ in Vanderbilt.     George is survived by nieces, nephews and friends.     He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Irene Willie Whitworth, and his brothers William and Milton.     A memorial service was held at the Church of Christ in Vanderbilt on Oct. 21, with Rev. Lyman Mereness officiating. Burial followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Edna.     Memorial contributions may be made to Church of Christ, PO Box 338, Vanderbilt, Texas 77991 or to a charity which does research on eye health.
