The Industrial Cobras softball team came in second place in their own tournament with a 3-1 record. The lone loss was a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Schulenberg, the team that won the tournament with a 4-0 record.
“This girl coming to bat, she’s my shortstop,” Schulenberg head softball coach Gilbert Price told me during the Edna scrimmage against Schulenberg. “She can really put a charge into the ball. She signed her D1 letter a while back.”
The Shorthorns dominated the tournament, winning by scores of 16-1, 17-0, 23-3, and 4-3. The 4-3 game was against Industrial.
“I really appreciate the seniors,” Cobra head coach Ted Malek said. “The few varsity kids that we had here really lead us, and the young ones did a great job, and they were just having fun. It was a good tournament for them to get some experience. It was a competitive tournament. We lost one game by one run. We were in every game that we played. This early in the season, you can’t expect more. This is just a start, you have to keep working at it."
