Stoked to be State Bound

This isn’t the first time the Cobra girls basketball team have headed to the state tournament –this is their second time. Former Industrial head coach Carol Strane said in 1950-51, the Cobras went to state but lost to Duncanville in the regional final round.
“It was called the quarterfinal round back then, but now it’s known as the regional final round,” Strane said.
Essentially, the current Cobra girls have gone one step further than the Cobras did in the 1950s, because back then the state tournament carried eight teams in each classification, and now they only carry four. Industrial competed in Conference B, back when there used to be only two conferences.
So this isn’t the first time they’ve made it to the state tournament, but it’s the first time they’ve made it to the final four.
“Back then we were the first team in the county to have a girls’ basketball team,” Strane said.
On Sunday, current Head Coach Shannon Taylor said the win hadn’t wore off yet for him, so he imagined it would take a couple of days for the girls to fully enjoy their win.
