A turf football field, an eight-lane track, new home and visitor bleachers with new press boxes – to all this the Ganado school board unanimously said yes when they met on March 22.
Robert Gadbois, overal project manager of the Owners Building Resource, analyzed the funds and said he feels good about where the school is sitting financially in the deal. “It’s $2.36 million for the field, bleachers and track, and based on the bond balance we have, coupled with the available fund balance, we’ll have done what the community voters wanted and still be sitting on $185,000.”
Allen Parks, GISD vice-president, asked Blake Petrash for his opinion on how the Ganado community might receive the news of the heavy-duty makeover. Petrash, a spokeperson for the Facility Masterplan Committee comprised of around 25 community people, said he felt as long as the first priorities were met – academics through building new elementary and secondary campuses– the community should be ok with the athletic facelift, renovations to the auditorium, the field house and the fine arts building.
