Be aware of new scams
By Michael Brooks Staff Writer
A new scam is hitting Jackson County residents and Sheriff Andy “A.J.” Louderback wants everyone to be aware.
“The caller interviews another person to get family information and then they come back and use that information against a person,” Louderback said. “That’s a little bit out of the norm. Usually it is a blind phone call. This one was very preparatory. A little higher level.”
Louderback said that a local elderly resident received a phone call from someone claiming they were with the government. They stated that the person owed them money, then started revealing personal information to make themselves sound more legitimate. The resident eventually got suspicious, hung up, and called the sheriff’s office.*
