Manuel Zarate Jr.
Manuel Zarate Jr., of Edna, went to be with our heavenly Father on Aug. 19, 2018, at the age of 68. He was born in Victoria, Texas, on Oct.30, 1949 to the late Manuel Zarate Sr. and Josephine Jacinto Zarate. Manuel served in the U.S. Army for 6 years before starting his career and retiring from Formosa Plastics as an Inspector of 21 years. Manuel was a diehard Dallas Cowboy fan who never missed watching a game. He loved to be on the family ranch, a very hard working man that provided and would do anything for his family, friends, and was always there to gave a helping hand. Manuel was a very loving husband, wonderful father, caring brother, patient grandfather, respected uncle and a genuine friend who will be missed dearly. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Amelia Hernandez Zarate; daughters, Shawn Zarate and her fiancé Michael DelosSantos and Letecia Zarate; sisters, Mary Herrera, Jane Pena, Theresa (Candido) Benavides, Margie (Jose) Mendoza, and Yolanda (Michael) Robson; brothers, Jimmy (Sylvia) Zarate, Frank (Angie) Zarate; grandson, Manuel Adrian Zarate and Daniel Jose Zarate; along with numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Manuel is preceded in death by his twin sister, Frances Ballin and brother, Daniel Trevino. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 24, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., with a Rosary to begin at 6:30 p.m., in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 25, in the St. Agnes Catholic Church of Edna. Burial will follow in Latin American Cemetery. Father Michael Petering will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Emilio Hernandez, Domingo Hernandez, Richard Hernandez, Carlos Sertuche, Pete Sertuche Jr., Felix Lopez, and Arnulfo Gonzalez. Honorary pallbearers are Manuel’s two grandsons, Manuel Adrian Zarate, Daniel Jose Zarate, Pete Sertuche Sr., and Rodolfo Saldierna.
