Edna City Council appoints new commissioners
New commissioners were appointed on the City of Edna’s Planning and Zoning and Building and Standards commissions at the city’s council meeting on Sept. 6. Appointed to the Planning and Zoning commission were Shelton Grona, Julie Garza, Mindy Yendrey, and Timothy Gonzales. They replace commissioners Bertha Brooks, Cippi Palacios and Linda Snow, whose terms expire on Oct. 1. Brooks served 8 years, and Palacios and Snow three each. Chris Lundstrom was reappointed to another term, since she has only been serving for three months. Other commissioners currently serving are Audrey Tones and Barnell Rawls and a term is three years. Appointed to the Building and Standards commission was Sonya Proper, replacing Shelley Srp who served for 4 years. James Lewis has served for 8 months and was reappointed to serve a full term, which is two years. Other commissioners currently serving are Patrick Brzozowski, Desmond Earls, and Joe Foster. In other business, council held a public hearing on the city’s 2018-19 fiscal budget and tax rate, tax levy, and ad valorem taxes. No one from the public spoke. Council then voted to approved these items. The $6,982,156 budget will raise more total property taxes than last year’s budget by $67,261, or 13.92 percent. Of that amount, $5,585 is tax revenue to be raised from new property added to the tax roll this year. The tax rate will effectively be raised by 20.77 percent and will raise taxes for maintenance and operations on a $100,000 home by approximately $14.80.
