Three jailed after drug bust
Three men are in the Jackson County Detention Center today after being arrested on drug charges. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Edna Police Department and the Calhoun County Swat Team conducted a narcotics investigation and gathered enough information to request a search warrant for 311 Young St. in Edna. According to Chief Deputy Rick Boone with the Sheriff’s Office, that search warrant was acted on yesterday evening. “We made three arrests,” he said. “Clifford Wayne Gardner, 63, Vernon Ramey Jr., 59, and Joe Earnest Robinson, 53, all of Edna, were detained and booked into the jail.” He said during the search officers found a large amount of powdered cocaine, rock cocaine, ecstacy, marijuana, and a large assortment of unidentified pills. Also confiscated was drug paraphernalia, two guns and cash. Gardner and Ramey were both charged with engaging in organized criminal activity, $75,000 bond; manufacture/delivery controlled substance PG 1 <1G in a drug-free zone, $75,000 bond; and unlawful possession of firearm by felon, $20,000. Robinson was arrested and charged with engaging in organized criminal activity. His bond was set at $75,000. All remain in custody at this time. Boone said more charges are pending once the rest of the pills are identified.
