Encarnacion Castro Jr.
Encarnacion ”Chon” Castro Jr., of Edna, Texas, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019, at the age of 78. He was born in Goliad, Texas on June 15, 1940, to the late Encarnacion Castro Sr., and Anastasia Fuentes Castro. Encarnacion worked in the oil fields majority of his life. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and a man of God who will be missed dearly. Encarnacion is survived by his children, Ray Castro, Gilbert Castro, Roy Castro (Adela), Adrian Castro (Trish), Gloria Castro, Martha Castro (Martin), Monica Guerra; 30 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Encarnacion is preceded in death by his son, Andy Ramirez; daughter, Cristina Robles; sisters, Eva Pena, Salome Castro, Santos Castro, and Mary Betsy Castro; brothers, Adam Castro, Manuel Castro, Conza Castro, and Guadalupe Castro; granddaughter, Ashley M. Castro; and great-granddaughter, Marleigh Lewis. Visitation was held Wednesday, March 13, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., with the rosary recited at 6:30 p.m., in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service was 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 14, in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Latin American Cemetery of Edna, with Rev. Michael Petering officiating. Pallbearers were Jake Castro, Roy Castro Jr., Frank Escobar, Matthew Camargo, Matthew Castro, Uris Lagunes Jr., Javier Robles Jr., and Steven Smithwick. Honorary pallbearers were Patrick Castro, Marc Castro, Malachi Castro, Louis Camargo, Andy Camargo, Jeronimo Camargo, Justin Castro, Johnny Joe Hernandez, Andy Joe Castro, Richard Guerra Jr., and Israel Lopez.
