Iola Clay
Iola Clay, of Edna, passed away, on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at the age of 87. She was born on January 24, 1932, in Hallettsville, to the late Ivory Monroe Clay and Viola Clay. Iola was employed and retired from the nursery at First Baptist Church of Edna. For 30 years she cared for and loved the numerous children who came to her in the church nursery. Iola was also a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother, aunt, and friend who will be missed dearly. She is survived by her children, L.C. Clay, Margarita Hines, Agnes Rhoder, Linda Clay, and Laura Haynes; her nine grandchildren, along with numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 6, at 11 a.m., in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Adams Branch Cemetery in Hallettsville. Pallbearers will be Freddie Jones, Floyd Rhoder, Andrew Robinson, Robert Clay, Robert Cunningham, and Paul Cunningham. Honorary pallbearers are Romalice Clay, Roy Barnes, Jr., De’Ondrea Robinson, Delton Smith, Perris Galindo, Marquise Edwards, Deprise Clay, and Cassius Clay.
