William “Bill” Dale Mcfarland, Sr.
William “Bill” Dale McFarland, Sr. of Edna, Texas, passed away Friday, February 19, 2021 in Victoria, Texas at the age of 83.
Bill was born on Friday, September 10, 1937 in Wewoka, Seminole County, Oklahoma to Robert Sylvester McFarland and Lenore Mae Morrison McFarland.
After graduating from high school, Bill graduated from Stephen F. Austin University and also Southwestern Baptist Theology Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. In 1964 Bill married Linda Derrick, and together they raised two sons; William Dale McFarland Jr. and Paul Judson McFarland.
Bill was a Baptist Minister in the following cities: Canton, Texas; Nacogdoches, Texas; Fremont, California; Willcox, Arizona; Tucson, Arizona and San Antonio, Texas.
When Bill was not in the pulpit, he enjoyed woodworking, fly fishing, photography, tying flies, reading and writing poetry. Bill was known for his smile as wide as Texas, his heart of gold, his spontaneous singing, his moving sermons, and his kindness that spread across the world. Bill is survived by wife Linda, sons William Dale Jr. and Paul Judson; Daughters-in-law Suzette and Judith; granddaughter Jessika, Kali, Sierra, Abigail, and sister, Betty Treat. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Lenora, brothers, Robert and Murphy Sr., and sisters, Augie Beltran and Gladys Kabrich.
There was a visitation on Tuesday, February 23, at Slavik Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 24 at Slavik Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Joe J. McClananhan officiating. Interment followed at Red Bluff Cemetery in Lolita, Texas. Pallbearers were be Chris Gerdes, Kip Derrick, Steve McFarland, Ike Peterson, Fred Jones, and Murphy McFarland Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Alan Wilson and Ted Pate.
