Search warrant finds narcotics

     A search warrant executed by Edna Police and Precinct 1 Constable Joel Price landed two people in jail on Thursday, March 4.

    A search of the residence in the 300 block of S. East Street in Edna revealed a small hydroponic marijuana grow operation, and resulted in the seizure of marijuana, methamphetamine, heroin, and cash.

    Jonathan Carter, 38, of Edna was charged with manufacturing and delivery of controlled substance penalty group 1 >=4g<200g and possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 >=1g<4g. 44-year-old Gabriel Sandoval was arrested on outstanding warrants from Victoria County. Sandoval was released from custody on March 5

.     Edna Police Chief Rick Boone said his goals for the department include getting as many narcotics off the street as possible.

    “Some of my main goals coming in [were] just to get on top of the narcotic activity that we’ve had here in our community,” he said. “Coming from the county, sure, we knew it was here, but I had a lot bigger picture to deal with in the county. We couldn’t focus as much attention here in Edna because we had Lolita, Vanderbilt, other areas to tend to. So now I am able to focus on Edna, and I feel like we have plenty of it here, and we’re going to attack that.”

    To accomplish that, Boone said the department has upped their visibility in the community, and he credits the hard work of Edna Police officers.

    “We have a great team,” he said, “Not only the ones that were here when I got here- though they’re eager to work and eager to learn, and of course ones I brought in were hand picked for certain reasons.

    Boone said the city can look forward to more activity just like this.     So this is just one stone thrown causing a small ripple,” he said “But you’re going to see more.”
