She grew up and attended school in Llano, and graduated from Texas Lutheran University.
For 36 years she was a teacher in Edna, Texas. She retired to Llano County, where she enjoyed living many years on the family ranch, hosing fun-filled family reunions, and entertaining her friends.
Her final residence was a Windchime, and assisted living facility in Kingsland.

Vondean was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Nolan Schmidt, and Robert Schmidt and wife Lillie; her sister Doris Tate and husband Bill, and brother-in-law Teddy Joe Talley. Also leaving too soon, were her long time friends and extended family, Billy and Carol Davis and Barbara Buck. She is survived by her sister Gladys Talley; nieces Sandra Wilson, Carol Jones, Darla Elam, Debra LeRoy and husband Dan. Nephews surviving her are Kenneth Tate, Leon Schmidt and wife Roxanne, Daryl Talley and wife Rosie; along with a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews; God children, and beloved cousins.

The graveside service officiated by Reverend Harold Vanicek, Jr. and Reverend Nick Bohmann, was held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at the Llano City Cemetery.
Vondean requested memorial contributions be given to St. Peter’s Church of Marble Falls or her favorite charity, Lutheran World Relief.
The family is grateful for the care and love she received while living at Windchime; the visits and ministry by Nick Bohmann; the caring doctors and nurses at Ascension Seton in Burnet; and the compassion shown by the nurses and caregivers of Altus Hospice in her final days. She was loved by many, and will be missed by all.
