Update on Brookshire Brothers shooting

    According to David Merritt, Ganado Chief of Police, 5:32 p.m. yesterday, Oct. 27, Jackson County Sheriff Dispatch received 911 calls due to shots being fired at Brookshire Brothers grocery store on 305 West York Street.

    Merritt said upon arriving to the scene, a vehicle had wrecked into a parked vehicle in front of the store. The driver, a female 56-year old Ganado resident, “was found to have a severe head injury due to a gunshot wound.”

    She was transported to an El Campo emergency room at Memorial Hospital, then flown in a helicopter to Houston Memorial Hermann. Merritt reported the victim succumbed to her wounds at 6:10 a.m. this morning, Thursday, Oct. 28.

    The Jackson County Herald-Tribune has chosen not to release her name at this time.

    Ganado citizens fearlessly followed the suspect, Joshua Lee Seahorn, out of town onto County Road 246, as they gave continued updates on Seahorn’s location.

    The 39-year old Corpus Christi resident was later found to have self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the head.

    According to Merritt, there is no ongoing relationship between the victim and the suspect, and the investigation is still ongoing.
