Frances Ganelle Dragoo
Frances Ganelle Dragoo passed away peacefully at The Courtyard Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Victoria, Texas, on March 4, 2023, at age 95.
She was born on October 20,1927 in Atlanta, Georgia to John C. and Reggie Poole Segars. Following graduation from High School, she moved to Charleston, South Carolina, and began working at the U.S. Naval Base, where she met the love of her life, Floyd Dragoo. They were married in Charleston on September 15, 1945.
Prior to Floyd’s death in 2001, they had been married for 55 years. Eventually, they moved to Victoria, Texas during the 1960’s.
Frances worked for the Victoria Police Department, Investigation Division, retiring after 20+ years. She was an active member of the Eastern Star, Victoria Chapter, and served in many various positions through the years. In the mid-1980’s, she and Floyd purchased their five-acre property outside of Edna, named it Avalon, and built their beautiful retirement home. She loved walking out in the country where she watched the deer and birds.
She was an active member of Edna United Methodist Church and participated in her Sunday School Class and the UMW group. As her health began to decline, she moved to The Courtyard in Victoria. Recently, Victoria Hospice also assisted with her care. The family is very thankful for the comfort and care she received during her later years.
Frances loved to read and spent many hours of enjoyment immersed in a good book. Through the years, her most favorite reading was found in her precious Bible! She truly loved the Lord and reading His word.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd in 2001; her daughter, Laura McPherson in 1991; and her son, Floyd Jr. “Stormy” Dragoo in 2008.
She is survived by her son-in-law, Robert (Shelby) McPherson; her grandchildren, Michael McPherson, Matthew McPherson, Patrick McPherson, Emily Hall, Joseph (Meghan) Hall; three great-grandchildren, Amelia, Breamon and Caleb Hall; along with several nieces and nephews and one brother-in-law, Louis (Bill) Dragoo.
Visitation will be held on March 18, 2023 at 10am at Rosewood Funeral Chapel, with funeral services beginning at 11am. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Methodist Church in Edna, Texas or Victoria Hospice.
There is a saying about aging. “Getting old is like climbing a mountain; you get a little out of breath, but the view is much better.” We can only imagine the view that our beloved Granny is enjoying right now! Until we meet again.
