Tonight is a big night for JC softball and baseball

On Monday night, the Ganado Maidens (9-2) out-hit Weimar (10-1) seven to four, but defensive mistakes and not being able to come up with a clutch hit held Ganado to a single run and Weimar took the game 4-1.

Technically Weimar has not wrapped up the district crown as they only have a one game lead over both Ganado and Shiner (9-2)  but Weimar will close out the district schedule against Louise, Flatonia, and Moulton, three games they should easily win.

The Maidens will play at Flatonia tonight, and then at Shiner on Friday, in a battle for second place. Weimar, Ganado, and Shiner have all locked up playoff spots.

Also making up a game from last Thursday, the Edna Cowgirls (6-4) took care of business against Rice (0-10), winning 9-4. The Cowgirls have a tough game tonight in Hallettsville (9-1).

Industrial (5-5) has a huge week in determining if they will make the playoffs. Tonight the Cobras host Yoakum (6-4). A win would pull Industrial into a tie with Yoakum while also helping Edna.

If Edna loses tonight and Industrial wins, Edna, Industrial, and Yoakum would be in a tie for the final two playoff spots.

On Friday Edna will host the Cobras.

Industrial will finish the regular season next week hosting Rice and then hosting Hallettsville.

Edna will finish their regular season next week at Columbus (9-1) and then hosting Palacios (2-8).

Tidehaven (3-7) is not technically eliminated from playoff contention, but with Hallettsville and Yoakum still on their schedule and needing to win at least three of the final four to even have a chance, they would have to have a lot of things go their way.

On the baseball side, both Industrial (5-4) and Edna (5-4) have a huge week. The Cowboys play Hallettsville (9-0) tonight while Industrial hosts Yoakum. Friday will bring the big game as Edna will host the Cobras. Edna and Industrial are tied for the final two playoff spots with Columbus (7-2) sitting in second and Yoakum (4-5) in fifth.

Last night the Ganado Indians picked up a big win over Weimar, 6-5. Ganado, Weimar, and Schulenburg are fighting for the final two playoff spots.

Baseball has five district games remaining.

Notes-The 2A softball Region IV is loaded with top teams. Along with Ganado and Weimar in the top 10, Shiner is sitting at 18. Also in the top ten in the state from Region IV are Three Rivers, Johnson City, and Latexo. Latexo had people scouting the Weimar/Maidens game last night.

Region I has a single top ten team, Floydada. Region III also has a single team, Como-Pickton

Region II has three top ten teams: defending state champ Crawford as well as Tolar and Riesel.
