Scott Kana Officially Retires
Six years ago, Scott Kana was asked to come out of retirement and be an interim principal at Edna High School for a few months. Three months later he made the decision to stay.
“I decided to stay because the kids were great, the teachers were great. The community supports everything we do at the high school and in the district and that makes education so much easier” Kana said. Three months then turned into six years and he has decided that it’s time to retire once again, this time for good.
During his time as principal of Edna High School, Kana has done and witnessed many great things. What he is most proud of is the academic achievements and academic strides that they made while he was there. “We left with an 89 on our report card. We placed second this past year in the academic UIL meet. We placed kids on the national education board. That was recognized by the college board from their ACT, SAT, and PSAT scores,” Kana explained proudly. “We really made a lot of strides as far as academics.”
When asked what he would remember and miss the most, he said “The comradery of the kids, the relationships that I built with the kids.” Kana further explained, “When I got there, I think I was asked the question ‘What do I think is the key to being a successful principal?’ I think it’s just building the relationships with the kids and through building those relationships with the kids and the teachers, that’s how we gain that success.”
Now that his time at Edna High School has come to an end, he has decided to just embrace life. He is going to spend time with his family and enjoy celebrating their milestones with them. “I’m going to miss the kids so much… I just want to thank everybody in Edna for all of the support including Mr. O’Conner, the administration, and the school board. Without all of their support and the community’s support, my job couldn’t have been possible. The success would not have been possible.”
