Maxine Janelle Price
Maxine J. Price, of Edna, Texas, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at the age of 82. She was born in El Campo, Texas on January 11, 1941, to the late Frank Walter Herrmann and Naomi Cruse Herrmann. She resided in El Campo throughout her childhood and moved to Edna, Texas in 1959.
Maxine was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and a dear friend to many. She never met a stranger, and always remembered them from the day she met them. Her fun, loving nature will be missed by many.
She is survived by her children, Richard Keith Kresta and wife, Rhonda, and Jeffery Alan Kresta and wife, Amanda; her sister, Clarice Lampe and husband, Paul; her granddaughters, Brooke Belicek and husband, Jacob, and Meredith Baker and husband, Jake, and her grandson, Aslan Hilliard; her seven great-grandchildren in chronological order, Harper Hadley, Brittan Belicek, Jonah Baker, Jeremiah Baker, Bexley Belicek, Jericho Baker, and Bethany Belicek; her nephew, Ryan Lampe and wife, Amber; her great nephews, Dylan Phillips, Holden Knupple, and Trenton Lampe; her extended family, Steven Schaper and wife, Stacey and sons, Hayden and Colin, and Ryan Barkdull and wife, Richelle and sons, Ashton and Bryce.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband, Johnny Roy (J.R.) Price.
Pallbearers are Ryan Lampe, Jacob Belicek, Jake Baker, Michael Matthew McLeod, Ron Summers, Bruce Airhart, Ryan Barkdull, Steven Schaper, and John Jarrett. Honorary Pallbearers are Paul Lampe, Aslan Hilliard, George Hilliard, Phillip Lane, Michael McLeod, David Gregory, Ike Peterson, Delano Kinsfather, and the employees of LNRA.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 5 – 7 p.m., in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Service will begin at 10 a.m., on Thursday, October 26, 2023, also in the Oaklawn Funeral Chapel. A burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Edna. Reverend Robert Krause will be officiating.
Maxine held many prestigious positions throughout her life. She was an entrepreneur and co-owner of Kresta Marine Supply. She was one of the founders and co-owner of the unique gift shop, Kollections Gift Gallery. Maxine was a self-taught draftsman for the Texas Highway Department. She worked at Jackson County State Bank for many years. She was an Executive Director of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, served on the City Council, and held the position of Mayor Pro Tem from 1994 –
2006 and 2008 - 2018.
One of her major accomplishments in her life was being LNRA Park Director during the development and completion of the Harry Hafernick Recreation Center and campground. While there, she orchestrated many special events at the Center, with one of the most notable being the Elvis Event. Maxine’s services extended beyond Edna to all of Jackson County. She served as a Citizens State Bank Director in Ganado, Texas.
She loved Edna and was instrumental in many of its amazing projects. Maxine was so proud of the Flag City Plaza project and of Edna being nicknamed Flag City U.S.A. She was also named Jackson County outstanding citizen of the year in 1997 and received the South Texas Women Award in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the quality of life in 2004.
Maxine had many hobbies: cooking, crafting, making jewelry, stained glass, ceramics, painting, and much, much more. She had a lust for learning new things and always seemed to have multiple projects going at the same time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Maxine can be made to the Texana Museum and/or Texana Arts Council.
