Doris Ellen Kolar McNabb
Doris McNabb peacefully passed away on Monday, November 13, 2023 after a short battle with cancer. She was born on January 25, 1933 in LaSalle, Texas, to Henry and Wilma Gerik Kolar.
Doris graduated from Vanderbilt High School in 1949 and the following year, in 1950, earned an Executive Secretarial Diploma from Durham’s Business School in San Antonio. On August 16, 1951, Doris married the love of her life, A. E. (Mac) McNabb at St. Theresa Catholic Church in LaSalle. They started their married life in LaSalle/Vanderbilt area and then moved to Corpus Christi and finally to Beeville, Texas, where Mac was a fire fighter at Chase Field Naval Air Station. Doris used her secretarial skills from Durham while she worked in St. Joseph Catholic Church office, as an aide in Beeville ISD, and finally at several banks in Beeville. Doris and Mac raised their four children, Donald, Janice, Terry, and Michael in a loving, faith filled home in Beeville.
Doris and Mac loved to camp and see the sights of the United States, but the best place they loved to camp was “Shellbank” on Garcitas Creek outside of LaSalle. They split their time between Beeville and Shellbank for several years until they decided to live full time at Shellbank. Doris continued to live at Shellbank even after Mac’s passing in 2011. Doris moved back to Bee County in 2021 to lived in Papalote, Texas, close to family.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years A.E. (Mac) McNabb; son Terry McNabb; brother Clarence Kolar; and sisters-in-law La Delle Kolar and Leona Kolar.
Survivors include son Donald McNabb (Kathy) of LaSalle; daughter Janice Ellis (Charles) of Papalote; and son Michael (Carin) of Beeville. Grandchildren Amanda Toon (Nathan); Deven Bowerman (Tom); Dustin Ellis (Megan); and Adam McNabb (Stacie). Doris is also survived by five great grandchildren: CD and LoReece Ellis and Madelynn, Landon, and Andrew McNabb, and her siblings Raymond Kolar (Hope), Larry Kolar, and Sylvia Gentry (Bill) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Funeral Mass officiated by Rev. Johnson Owusu-Boateng will be held at St. Theresa Catholic Church in LaSalle, Texas on Tuesday, November 21 at 11 a.m. Burial of Doris’s ashes will be held on a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Theresa Catholic Church Building Fund, the American Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice in memory of Doris.
