Update on murdered Edna teen

     Police continue to investigate the death of a 16-year-old Edna teen, two days after her body was found at Cottonwood Apartments. The death, they believe, is a Capital Murder.

     Despite rumors to the contrary, Edna Police Chief Rick Boone says that no suspect has been arrested, although the department has interviewed some people in connection with the case.

     The community grieves the loss of Edna High School cheerleader Lizbeth Medina, who was found deceased just before 7 p.m. on Tuesday. A Facebook group, Justice for Lizbeth Medina, has grown to over 3,500 members in less than 24 hours, with people expressing grief, sympathy, and offers to help in any way they can.

     Few details have been released about the specifics of the case, but that hasn’t stopped people from sharing second- and thirdhand information that Lizbeth’s mother Yaquesita Medina says is false and harmful. In a live video, she implored the community to “please do not post false information in Tiktoks,” and to report posts and videos sharing unconfirmed and false information.

     A candlelit memorial is being planned for 6 p.m. on December 9 at the Enda Cowboys Stadium, and The Cowboy Cheerleaders will be wearing Purple at tonight’s playoff game to honor their teammate.
